East Sussex is brimming with cosy cafes and coffee shops to warm up (or cool down, depending on the time of year), meet friends and relax. Whether in Eastbourne, St Leonards-on-Sea, Crowborough, Rye, or anywhere in the county, you are never too far from a place with good coffee, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere.
Hailsham Coffee (formerly AJ’s Baked), Hailsham
Just off of Market Square, Hailsham Coffee is nestled in a row of shops and sits proudly across from a well known coffee chain. With seats outside, you can enjoy the sun (come summer or winter) or make yourself at home inside and sink into the comforting smell of coffee.
We love: a hot latte, fresh juice and the array of incredible baked goods (an almond croissant is my favourite) plus a bonus is the friendly owner and his team.
To The Rise, Eastbourne
An artisan bakery bursting with the aroma of fresh sourdough, To The Rise is along the beach end of Terminus Road and a stone’s throw from the promenade. This bustling little shop captures the soul of European bakeries with everything from fresh pizza to croissants to frangipane.
We love: the strong rich coffee, the focus on seasonal produce and literally any of the baked goods. No wrong answers. This is a big favourite in the YES team.
Grounded at The Forge, Ringmer
This unique coffee lounge sits back from the main road running through Ringmer. Stepping inside, the warm smell of baked goods quickly greets you along with the coffee and friendly staff. With plenty of seating (from comfy to functional) and strings of warm fairy lights, this cafe is a perfect retreat from the rain and a bonus that it’s pet friendly!
We love: the service, the unique building and the warmed cinnamon buns with fresh coffee.
The Pantry Coffee House, Willingdon
Nestled in Willingdon Village, The Pantry feels like a hidden gem. With a modern (but comfortable) interior and a delicious display of Insta worth cakes and treats, this little coffee shop is the perfect place for a catch up with a friend or a lone visit with a good book.
We love: an iced coffee and a slice of tray bake that is all quality over quantity.
Chucky’s Baristro, Bexhill train station
You cannot miss Chucky’s upon entering Bexhill station. Firstly because the counter is in the centre but also because the smell of fresh coffee warms the otherwise draughty station. With a few chairs and tables by the bar, Chucky’s is perfect for a quick stop before you catch your train. The coffee never lets you down and there is always a tempting sweet treat on display.
We love: a perfect flat white before we hop on the train.
Muffins, East Hoathly
Located conveniently along East Hoathly high-street, Muffins has all the village charm and atmosphere. As well as a cafe, they are also a boutique, selling a range of gifts, jewellery and clothes from independant makers from around the world.
We love: anything off the lunch menu and always a slice of homemade cake.
Folks, St Leonards-on-Sea
Folks coffee is hard to beat and the muffins (supplied by Poppyseed bakery) taste how you remember muffins tasting as a child. The coffee shop is small, with only a little seating, but is perfect if you’re on the way for a walk along the seafront or off to do some window shopping.
We love: a cappuccino and apple crumble muffin (plus a browse of the reclaimed vintage while you wait).

Urban Ground! Come and check out our window display which has been created by the students at Sussex Downs College. Once again, their work looks amazing, we are lucky to have such talented people to collaborate with.
Oh we will have to check that out as it sounds amazing! Can’t wait to come and visit 🙂
