The upcycling industry is growing quickly and not only does it mean breathing new life into something old, but it helps the environment too.

Reuse charities, Furniture Now and Hastings Furniture Service collect and reuse over 700 tons of furniture and household goods a year across East Sussex.

Your County set the team at Hastings Furniture Service a challenge to create a room showcasing their reused and upcycled furniture and craftwork. And the room pictured shows the results.

Upcycling the room

Within the styled room, the team has displayed everything from a console table converted from a drop-leaf table, to a decoupage tray-table created at the ‘Craft with recycled materials course’. Old fashioned tea-trays have been reused as coffee tables, with a sheet music decoupage top and legs salvaged from damaged furniture.

And the drawer display unit shown was upcycled at the same course. Students turned the drawers on their head to make shelving units. These were then lined with wallpaper and painted to make the perfect display piece for smaller ornaments.
