Explore, discover and experience outstanding natural beauty with Eastbourne’s Covid-Ready Walking Festival 2020.
Put your best foot forward for the Eastbourne Walking Festival 2020 – a ten-day celebration of the great outdoors re-imagined in the light of the Covid pandemic.
It starts this weekend (18th September 2020) with a diverse set of activities and self-guided walks available – catering to every type of interest.
The Festival also sees the return of Beat The Street, the walking sensation that turns exploring our town into a giant fun, free game for all the family. Get out of the house and get moving to see how far you can walk, cycle and run in just 7 weeks. And that’s not all. There are some great challenges for all the family to enjoy and top prizes up for grabs for schools, community groups and individuals.
The Festival acts as a springboard to promote health and wellbeing and helps people to discover walking as a way of life. There are walks for everyone whatever their age or mobility and includes town, coast and countryside. It’s all designed to introduce and inspire visitors and residents of Eastbourne to the incredible trails, paths and stories of discovery throughout our area.
Darrell Gale, Director of Public Health at East Sussex County Council, comments: “Covid hasn’t gone away; and we have designed the self-guided walking festival and Beat the Street to be Covid-Ready with social distancing markers and with a cleansing regime of the equipment used in the Beat the Street game. We also need you to play your part by following the Government guidelines, please follow the “rule of 6” and do not play the game in large groups, be aware of other players and keep your distancing from them as you play. Please don’t touch the Beat Boxes, your card only needs to be hovered above it, and wash your hands and card when you return home.
“As we try to manage life through the pandemic being active, enjoying walking and cycling and getting to know your beautiful borough is one part of a return to normality, nd learning how to keep ourselves and each other safe whilst enjoying physical activity helps prepare us all for the times ahead while we still live with the virus, and want to enjoy as much of our normal routines as possible.”
