Celebrating Diversity Festival

Throughout May the WEA is celebrating the amazingly diverse world we live in with our Celebrating Diversity Festival.
Showcasing some amazing tutors and courses, a little flavour of the WEA’s annual course offer.
Join us for our Launch Event 28th April, a day of FREE talks to stimulate discussion, raise awareness and deepen understanding.

11-12pm – Diversity is about counting people, inclusion is about insisting people count!

Atif Choudhury CEO Diversity and Ability.
Atif Choudhury, founder of Zaytoun CIC and CEO of Diversity & Ability, shares his story.
Atif grew up in a Bangladeshi family and was diagnosed with dyslexia at 27. He reflects on the intersections between neurodiversity, dyslexia, class & ethnicity, arguing that diagnosis can often be class-based. He also discusses the power of lived experience within organisations and explains why belonging and participation are so important for people to thrive in education and the workplace.  Enrol online

2.30-3.30 – ‘Islam, Society & Racism’ with Dr Samia Husain

A short talk followed by open Q&A
A brief overview of how Islam views society and how it addresses racism.
Exploring the historical context of when the Islamic civilisation came in to existence and how it tackled racism and tribalism.   Enrol online

 6.30-7.30pm – The Long and Winding Yellow Brick Road – Reverend Richard Coles

The Revd. Richard Coles talks about his journey from 80s pop star to rural Northamptonshire vicar.
Revd. Coles will be happy to answer some questions at the end of his talk.
