Black History Month – Breast Cancer Awareness

October is  Black History Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   In England at the moment, black African women are nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with late stage breast cancer as white women.
It is really important that all women feel happy and confident to check their breasts every month and know about what the NHS does to help keep them healthy.
Albion in the Community’s Speak Up Against Cancer team are having a special online event at 3pm on Sunday 24 October to talk about some of the issues that black women face around breast cancer and give advice and information about how they can check that their breasts are healthy including screening programmes and a demonstration of self-checking.
Uzoamaka Nkwonta, a mammographer from the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, will be taking part in the event offering her specialist insight alongside staff from AITC.  It will also feature the story of Cirene from Brighton who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.   Watch this video to find out more:  https://youtu.be/r0NANMalITk
