From egg hunts and Easter pantomimes, to woodland drama workshops and sessions exploring our natural world on Earth and in space, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this Easter holidays.

We’ve pulled together some of our favourites family activities happening across East Sussex over the Easter period.

Easter Egg hunts and Easter trails

There are Easter Egg hunts and trails to egg-plore all over East Sussex during the Easter holidays.

Bateman’s, Burwash, 5 to 21 April

Make your way along the trail and explore the beautiful garden at Bateman’s, where you can find nature-inspired activities for the whole family.

Bodiam Castle, Bodiam, 5 to 21 April

Have a quacking time at Bodiam Castle this spring with a family-friendly trail inspired by the cheeky castle ducks.

Birling Gap, nr East Dean, 5 to 21 April

Come along and explore the beautiful coastline at Birling Gap. The trail takes place on Belle Tout with 10 fun filled activities for all the family to enjoy.

Sheffield Park and Gardens, nr Uckfield, 5 to 27 April

Meet some of Sheffield Park and Garden’s more lively residents on a duck-inspired Easter trail and play games for all the family along the way.

Battle Abbey, Battle, 5 to 27 April

Take part in an adventure quest at Battle Abbey. Crack the clues hidden around the grounds and enjoy a delicious chocolate reward!

Wilderness Woods, Hadlow Down, 5 to 21 April

Follow this traditional bunny trail around the woods and solve the woodland anagram as you find spring poems nestled among the trees.

Easter pantomimes

Robin Hood, Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne, 8 to 13 April

Don’t miss out on this Easter extravaganza brimming with magic, spectacular sets, fabulous costumes, and heaps of enchantment.

Enjoy lots of fun and merry men-t in this rollicking rendition of Robin Hood!

Wizard of Oz, White Rock Theatre, Hastings, 13 April

For the perfect Easter treat, join CBBC and Strictly star Karim Zeroual as The Scarecrow in this magical adventure like no other.

From the magical wonders of Munchkinland to the mysterious and perilous journey through the dark forests, join Dorothy and her friends on a fun and exciting adventure.

Alice in Wonderland, Royal Hippodrome Theatre, Eastbourne, 16 to 21 April

Jump down the rabbit hole this Easter and immerse yourself in a world of wacky characters, crazy routines, and a tea party full of craziness!

Alice in Wonderland is filled with all the panto fun audiences have come to love at the Hippodrome. But don’t be late – book your tickets for a very important date or it’s “off with your heads!”.

Out and About

Drama in the Wood, Wilderness Woods, Hadlow Down, 7 to 11 April

Drama in the Woods gets children outside and embracing nature, and before they know it, they’re making theatre…

Activities include den building, rope swing making, and woodland games such as Capture the Flag and Commando. Children will also enjoy art and craft activities including clay faces and nature sculptures, drama workshops, stage fighting, set design and costume creation. Suitable for children aged 7 to 12 years.

The Bluebell Railway

The heritage steam railway at Sheffield Park will be running its popular Kids for a Quid travel offer during the Easter holidays as well as other events.

Hop aboard for Easter bunny fun over the weekend of 11 to 13 April. Celebrate the magic of Easter with a delightful meet-and-greet experience with Easter Bunnies onboard the heritage trains.

Experience the charm of the countryside and visit the Mobile Zoo at Kingscote Station between 18 and 21 April. From fluffy sheep to friendly spiders, there’s plenty to discover and love at this interactive zoo experience.

Youth Action Nature Recovery, Seven Sisters Country Park, 12 April

Coming up over the Easter holidays is a Youth Action event for young people aged between 16 and 25 who love nature.

The Seven Sisters Nature Recovery event is a free, all-day opportunity to immerse yourself in the landscape and wildlife at the Country Park. Experienced guides will share their knowledge about the local flora and fauna as you marvel at the breath-taking views of the iconic Seven Sisters cliffs and breathe in the fresh coastal air.

And if you can’t make this one, there’s another event planned for May.

Art and science

The Big Brick Build, Battle Abbey, Battle, 12 to 21 April

Get creative with the master builders and help bring heritage to life with LEGO® bricks.

Step back in time and help recreate the iconic Battle Abbey Gatehouse in brick art form.

Observatory Science Centre, Herstmonceux, 8, 9, 15 and 16 April

Do you want to fly to the moon? Experiment with solids, liquids and gases? Or perhaps learn how rockets get off the ground? Join one of the workshops at the Observatory Science Centre this Easter to find out more.

Fun with Chemistry (15 & 16 April), Astronaut Academy (8 April) and Rocket Science (9 April) are all half-day workshops suitable for 7 to 11 year olds.

Draw Together, De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, 13 April

Come and take part in a large-scale collaborative drawing session in the heart of the gallery.

Inspired by the artworks of Michelle Roberts, this interactive event invites you to draw as a team, adding your creativity to a growing artwork. No experience needed – just come along, grab a pencil and get involved!

Cut & Paste – Creative Collage For Teens, Bexhill Library, Bexhill, 15 April

Bexhill Library are hosting a free creative collage workshop with Ways of Seeing, who run sessions looking at innovative ways to explore art and literature.

Come along and play around with paper and make your own collaged bookmarks and postcards. All materials will be provided during the session and Shelley from Ways of Seeing will be there to welcome, guide and encourage. Suitable for anyone aged 11+.

Open Ears: Exploratory Sound Workshop, De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, 27 April

Join sound artist and improviser Tullis Rennie for a hands-on workshop exploring sound recording, manipulation, and graphic scoring techniques.

Working together, you’ll help create a brand-new performance piece in response to Jaki Irvine’s installation. The workshop is open to anyone aged 11+.
