What is a Naming Ceremony?
Naming ceremonies are all about welcoming a new addition to your family, whether a new baby, step, or adoptive children. These personalised ceremonies are the perfect alternative to a formal christening. Allowing you the freedom to include whatever and whoever you want. An opportunity to publicly declare your love and commitment, name specially chosen Guiding Adults and share your hopes for their future.
Where can we hold a ceremony?
Your ceremony can take place anywhere in East Sussex. You’re welcome to celebrate at any one of our four Register Offices but if you’ve got other ideas, let us know. A Mad Hatter’s tea party in your back garden, a woodland celebration, a seaside shin dig, or afternoon tea at the village hall, wherever it is you choose to celebrate, we’ll come to you. *
*Subject to satisfactory risk assessment. Excludes religious and political premises.
What can we include in a ceremony?
Each ceremony is different, just like each family, which is why we invite you to personalise the ceremony in any way you choose. The beauty of our naming ceremonies is that you decide what to include. This can be things such as.
- Music
- Poems
- Readings
- Prayers or Hymns
- Formal naming of your children
- Presentation of a gift
- Appointing Guiding Adults and/or Guiding Grandparents
- Parental promises
With the information you provide us your Celebrant will create a ceremony that is meaningful and memorable, that you and your family will treasure for years to come.
