Eastbourne Carnival – 27 May
After the success of the event last year Eastbourne Carnival is back! This year the event will be celebrating everything that makes Sussex such a unique and fabulous place. The event features a colourful parade, a series of carnival events, and a street party. For more information visit the Eastbourne Carnival Website
Rother Valley Model Railway exhibition – 27 and 28 May, 10am to 4pm
Destination Robertsbridge towards the end of the month for this exhibition of model railways. The event promises displays and quality layouts, sales stands, refreshments and a “railwayana” shop – as well as a classic car display on the Saturday. There will also be the opportunity to visit Rother Valley Railway’s ever-developing full-size station across the road, including the new turntable, and see its progress in extending the railway to Bodiam and the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Heathfield Show – 27 May
This is one of the best local agricultural shows. But as well as all the animal and livestock displays and competitions, there’s much more for the family to enjoy with market traders, trade stands, arts and crafts, countryside and education areas, flower show, vintage tractors, and even the Shetland Pony Grand National. Battle Medieval Fayre – 28 and 29 May
The historic town of Battle will be turning back the clock several hundred years for its Medieval Fayre. There will be fire jugglers, jesters, and knights who will be battling it out to be hailed the best of all. Among the host of other things to see and do there will be Battle’s Merrie Maypolers, the crowning of the May Queen and various food and drink stalls. Science festival at Herstmonceux – 27 to 29 May
The science centre will be holding extra activities over the bank holiday weekend showcasing science across all topics including: science of sound show, science adventures in the inflatable dome, environment and wildlife, fun physics with the University of Sussex, and viewing the sun safely through specialist solar telescopes. Fun Day for Hastings RNLI – 31 May
Priory Meadow Shopping Centre will be doing its bit to support Hastings RNLI and Lifeboat with this fun day. Visitors to the centre will be able to enjoy free face painting and children’s activities, get to meet and chat to the RNLI staff and volunteers, and find out more about the vital work the charity does. Ashdown Forest Winnie the Pooh Day and Teddy Bears Picnic – 2 June
If you go down to the woods today…well, Ashdown Forest at least…you’ll be in for a big surprise. There will be various Pooh related activities including playing Poohsticks, building Eeyore a new house, and even hunting for a Woozle. Uckfield Lions Family Fun Day – 4 June
Luxford Field will play host to the Uckfield Lions family fun day and car boot sale which will include fun entertainment, stalls and games. More information on the Uckfield Lions website
Eastbourne’s 999 Emergency Services Display – 3 and 4 June
This year is the 36th consecutive year that this event has run on Western Lawns on Eastbourne’s seafront. It is organised by Sussex Police, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, South East Coast Ambulance Service, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and the RNLI.
